“I have always been an active person.  As a youngster my passion was swimming, through my university years it was triathlon and since 2002 cycling has been my forte.  I combined this with a teaching job from 2001 until 2005.  It was during this period that I experienced a severe accident in the garden which resulted in me severing the popliteal vein in my left leg (this is the primary vein which runs the length of the leg, I lost it from the knee down).

The accident occurred in the middle of the racing season (July 2004) and inevitably ended any ambitions that I might have had for the year.  However, with persistence, determination and a high-pain threshold I got myself back on a bike.  

A former coach recommended magnet therapy in October of the same year since I was suffering badly with swelling and stiffness due to the restricted circulation; I therefore purchased a Norstar BioMagnetics ‘Magnessage’ while working with Rick at the Leisure Industry Show in Birmingham.

I do not need to stress how much this product helped me, the results the following year spoke for themselves.  My first great achievement was a win in a National Series Road Race.  This result along with 2 further podiums in national events led to me signing with a British squad which actively raced on the continent.

I continued to combine racing and teaching until the end of 2006.  I decided to become a full-time athlete at this point; I wanted to focus solely on the bike.  2007 saw me resign with the same team and move out to live in Belgium for the duration of the season.  I went from strength-to-strength and my decision to commit to the sport began to pay off.  The later half of the season saw me achieve a string of top ten results in quality field on the continent. 

The hard work well and truly paid off when I was approached by the top Belgian Women's Team ‘Lotto-Belisol’.  I have signed a contract with this team for 2008.

My leg still causes me problems while training and racing, but thanks to Norstar’s Magnessage I can keep the symptoms under control and continue as most normal athletes.”
